James W. Hendry

James Wallace Hendry, age 56, was ultimately healed from his cancer and went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 9, 2015. He was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and teacher who will always be remembered for his thoughtful, considerate, and caring presence. He dedicated his life to providing for his family, and worked as a teacher and living historian throughout the years. He also enjoyed reading, historical research, writing, and presenting the lives of great men from history in one-man shows. Mr. Hendry relocated to the area to serve on the faculty of the Crown College of the Bible. He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace James "Pop" Hendry; brother, Jeff; and sister Linda. Jim leaves behind his wife Shelley of thirty-one years; children: Joel, Rebekah, Jonathan, Grace, Nathaniel, and Micah; mother, Patricia Hendry; sister, Laura Shmania; and many loving friends and students. The family will receive friends from Saturday, August 15th from 3-5 pm at Temple Baptist Church in the Curtis Hutson Memorial Chapel. A Memorial Service will begin at 5pm. The service will be recorded and posted to www.caringbridge.org/visit/jimhendry as well as his website. A short second receiving of friends and students who are from out of town or who are unable to attend the Saturday memorial will be held at Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel on Sunday, August 16th from 12:30 to 130 pm with a brief service called "Songs, Remembrances and Benedictions" at that chapel to conclude that time.   In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Crown College, 2307 Beaver Creek Drive Powell TN 37849: Student Scholarship Fund.
