Velma Dyer Ford, age 91, of Knoxville passed away on May 22, 2017. Velma was born in Maynardville. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Velma was involved in many things during her long life. She was President of the Seedling Garden Club and on the Fountain City Garden Club Council. Their efforts contributed to the transformation of Ijams Park many years ago. Velma was Co-Chair of Mayor Leonard Rogers campaign. She delighted in being a member of the nine hole golf group at Beaver Brook, where she and her husband were charter members. In her heyday, she often took the award of low putts for the season. Playing bridge was a weekly highlight. She was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church Fountain City, and enjoyed volunteering at St. Mary's Hospital. Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Lester S. Ford. Also preceded by her parents, Arthur Ross Dyer and Zoe Miller Dyer, brothers, Angus Dyer, Edgar Dyer, Hoyal Dyer, Troy Dyer and sister, Mildred Dyer Heiskell. She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Cathy Z.
