Mark Steven Margolis

Mark Steven Margolis passed away on April 11th, 2018 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center from stage 4 gastro-esophageal adenocarcinoma. Mark was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was a friend to everyone he met and the bedrock of his family. He will forever be loved and missed. Mark is survived by his wife Shawn Jennifer Margolis; parents Bill and Louise Alvarez; daughter Brittany Hydorn; and sister Terri Springer. His beloved family includes his son-in-law Roger Eckberg; grandchildren Sean, Sarah, and Gunnar; and step-brothers Bill and Tony Alvarez. His extended friends and family are spread throughout the country and include his long-running Saturday gaming group in Northern Virginia (and Kentucky), his Navy and San Diego friends, and our new Knoxville crew. Mark served his country as an Army MP shielding the Kurds in Northern Iraq during the first Gulf War, an action that epitomized his devotion to his country and his protective nature. An avid technology buff, Mark began working in IT in the early 2000's and spent the last 5 years of his life at the pinnacle of his career as an engineer at Microsoft - working up until the moment he fell ill.
