Charles Frank "Chick" Kryder, 84, of Knoxville, TN died peacefully at his home on November 28, 2018.  He was born January 6, 1934 in Conway, PA and was a long-time resident of both New Sewickley Township and Freedom, PA. Chick graduated from Freedom High School in 1953, and promptly began a very successful 30-year tenure in the steel industry where he held numerous positions at the Armco Steel manufacturing plant in Ambridge PA. His career was put on hold from 1956-1958 while he proudly served in Germany as a member of the U.S. Army. He resumed his Armco career following his honorable discharge and then retired in 1985. Upon retirement Chick served as a school bus driver for the Freedom Area School District but focused the majority of his time on his family and supporting his community. He was a Master Mason at Rochester Masonic Lodge #229 in Rochester, PA and a faithful member of the New Sewickley Presbyterian Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and as a member of the Session. After relocating to Knoxville in 1997, Chick became a devoted volunteer at University of Tennessee Medical Center and served as a Deacon and greeter at Fountain City Presbyterian Church. Ch...[more]

k was preceded in death by his parents Cliff and Ruth Kryder;  brother, Greg and a nephew, Scott Sprague. He is lovingly remembered by Suzanne, his devoted wife of 62 years;  brother, Dale and wife Marilyn;  sister-in-law, Gretchen Sprague and husband Charles (Chuck); sister-in-law, Sue Kryder; son, Denver and wife Nancy; daughter, Amy Sue Garcia and husband Don; nieces and nephews, Scarlet Sprague and husband Brian, Greg, Danny and Michael Kryder, Crystal Meyers and husband Josh, Kim Kramer and husband Brian; grandchildren, Justin Grimm and wife Holly, Charles (Chase) Grimm, Matthew Kryder, Ellen Kryder, Hunter Grimm and Hope Woody; and great-grandchildren, Levi, Brayden and Kylie. A memorial service will be held at Fountain City Presbyterian Church on Friday, December 7th, 2018 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Gradye Parsons officiating.  In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Fountain City Presbyterian Choir Scholarship Fund.
