Allan Lee Freed

Allan Lee Freed, age 85 passed from this life in his home under the care of his loving wife of 65 years on July 19th, 2016. Allan (Pard) Freed was the youngest of six children, born on June 26th, 1931 in Gridley Il. which was one of the hottest days on record for this area.  His parents were George and Anna (Froehlich) Freed.  Allan grew up on the family farm in Gridley, where they raised Belgian horses. Allan married his high school sweetheart, Edith Funk on October 8th, 1950. They moved their young family to Flanagan, IL. to start a chick hatchery and feed business.  Together in 1961 Allan and Edith confessed their faith in God and became members of the Apostolic Christian Church. After a summer vacation to Arizona in 1962 Allan convinced his family that Phoenix, AZ should be their new home. He worked in Display Advertising Sales for the Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette.  Several other business ventures included house painting and owning a homemade Ice cream shop in Scottsdale.  After retiring, he began a personal ministry of giving foot rubs to shut-ins and never turned away a willing patient. s Home in Leo, Indiana and served as a representative for many years. Allan is survived by his wife Edith, daughter Alana Schrenk of Tempe, son Thomas (wife Kathy) of Greenfield, Indiana, daughter Nancy Kokanovich (husband Jon) of Anthem, son Steven (wife Kelly) of Tempe, son Richard (wife Jennifer) of Phoenix, fifteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, one sister, Georgia McKinley, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Lynn and Harold and two sisters, Averil Stevig and Dorothy Sypult. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary 6500 E. Bell Rd. Scottsdale, AZ. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016, 12:00PM at Apostolic Christian Church, 9230 N. 26th St. Phoenix, AZ.
