LaVar Clegg was born February 10, 1944 in Heber City, Utah to Almon Giles Clegg and Geneva Denison Clegg. The youngest of six children, he worked the family farm and played basketball in high school. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering Science degree at Brigham Young University and his MBA at California State University Fullerton. In 1964 he married Janice Lynn Sorenson in the Salt Lake City Temple. They raised four children together in New York, California, and Arizona. LaVar had a gift for still photography, particularly of nature. He was regimented in his exercise, running or bicycling every day. He enjoyed hiking in the desert, backpacking in the mountains, fishing in the streams, gardening in the yard, woodworking in the garage, and playing games in the kitchen. He served the church all his life, fulfilling dozens of callings. He retired from professional life in 2014 as Vice President of Engineering at Interface Inc. LaVar passed away April 22, 2019 after a six-year battle with cancer. He will be laid to rest in Desert Hills Mortuary and Cemetery in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his son Randy.
