Cornell Lewis Haan

Dr. Cornell Lewis Haan, born in Chicago, IL on July 28, 1940, died in Phoenix, AZ on November 13, 2019 at age 79. He lived in Scottsdale, AZ and died as the result of a stroke. Cornell was lovingly called Corkie by his family and friends. He worked as a teenager in his father's business in Chicago, C. Haan Trucking. He attended Bob Jones University in South Carolina, graduating with Bachelor of Arts degree, and Bethel Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN, receiving his Bachelor of Divinity. He returned to Bethel some years later to receive his Doctor of Ministry degree. Corkie was ordained in the Baptist General Conference and pastored seven churches in St. Paul [Gethsemane Baptist] and Isanti [Elim Baptist], MN; Erie [Grace Baptist], PA; Santa Rosa [Bethel Baptist] and Redlands [Calvary Baptist], CA; Bradenton [Bethel Baptist], FL; and Boulder [Harvest Baptist], CO. Several of those churches grew large and added a daughter church. Corkie impacted each community he was a part of. He was a member and officer of Kiwanis International. iring from pastoral ministry, Corkie joined Mission America Coalition in 1995 and became the Facilitator of Ministry Networks, pulling together directors of parachurch ministries from all over the country. In 2001 he co-founded the Presidential Prayer Team which was launched in September and grew exponentially to over 2,000,000. Two years later he was the Evangelical Point Person for Mel Gibson's movie, The Passion of the Christ. He continued working and consulting with people involved in various kinds of ministries. Corkie was active in the leadership of Promise Keepers. His heart was to see the body of Christ praying for their elected officials and spreading the Gospel through prayer ministries on a global scale. Cornell L. Haan was born to Clarence K. Haan and Johanna Katherina Haan, and has a sister, Noelle Virjean Meyer. He and Marcia Jean Haan (deceased 2002) had three sons: Scott Cornell, Noel Gene and Corey Lewis. Their wives: JoAnne, Kim and Mia, along with eight grandchildren. Corkie remarried in 2005 and is survived by his wife, Virginia "Ginger" Ellen Haan; step-sons, Rodrick Shane Galloway and Jason Don Galloway, wife Shannon; and one grandchild and another one due in February 2020. A memorial service and reception is planned for Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 3 o'clock in the chapel at Scottsdale Bible Church, 7601 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ 95260.
