Barbara Hallows Darby

Barbara Hallows Darby died December 8, 2016 in Cave Creek, Arizona. Barbara was born November 10, 1925 to Royal E. & Elizabeth (Hayes) Hallows at the Hallows farm west of Rocky Ford, Colorado. Barbara grew up on the farm attending Patterson Valley and Vroman Grade Schools and then graduated from Rocky Ford High School in May of 1943. In June of 1943 she started work as a Secretary to the Base Adjutant in Base Head Quarters at the U.S. Army Air Base near La Junta, Colorado. Following the end of World War II, she worked as a Secretary to Perry Williams, attorney at law, in Rocky Ford, Secretary to Earl Brubaker at Valco in Rocky Ford and then in 1961 she went to work as a legal secretary in the office of John R. Stewart, attorney at law in La Junta. She retired from this position in May 2006. In November 2006 Barbara moved to a duplex at Evergreen Gardens in La Junta and in November 2011 she moved to Arizona to enjoy her remaining years visiting between the two homes of her daughters. Barbara married Lewis Elwood Darby on September 13, 1947. They were the parents of two daughters, Debbie and Dee Dee. having served as a Lector and was a member and past president of the St. Ann's Circle, as well as a member of the Council of Catholic Women. Barbara's favorite daily prayer to God contained the words, "Let me thus praise you in the way you love best by shining on those around me." And she did. Barbara was pre-deceased by her husband, Elwood Darby, who died in May of 1984, her father, Royal E. Hallows, who died in May of 1982, and her mother, Elizabeth Hallows who died in December of 1987. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Ron) Thompson, grandson Royal Allen Thomposn of Texhoma, Oklahoma, Daughter, Dee Dee (Lyle) Aspegren of Cave Creek, Arizona; step grand-daughter Lori Larson and her family of Ft. Collins, Co; and step grand-daughter Julie Gage and her family of Vail, AZ. Funeral arrangements are currently pending in Arizona, Oklahoma and Colorado.
