Sharon Smith Day respectfully says goodbye to her extended family and many wonderful friends. Sharon died May 4, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.....her husband, Bob, and daughters: Diane (Steve, Katie (Landon and Colin), and Tyler); Janet and Wes (Hannah, Dan, and Paul); Leslie and Alan (Danielle and Sam); Darcy and Troy (Brady, Grace, Ellie and Mango). Her brother, Freddy, pre-deceased her. Sharon, a Phoenix native, graduated from North High, then attended the University of Arizona and Colorado College. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Colorado College and received her Master's Degree from ASU. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Kappa Alpha Theta and a career gal in New York City after graduation. She met the love of her life, Bob, while working in Cincinnati, OH. She and Bob were married in 1957. Her life, she said, was filled with many wonderful memories and loving years with Bob. They travelled extensively over the past 25 plus years. She loved walkin' in Paris; he loved fishin' wherever. Sharon loved her Chinese students. She taught English classes at the Chinese Senior Center and taught many wonderful individuals through the years, helping some to gain their U....[more]

eir U.S. citizenship. She had many close friends...those from NPHS Class of '51 and beyond. They were very special to her..."just the best." Sharon, in her struggle against ovarian cancer, showed us all how to fight the good fight and in so doing brought our family even closer. We will miss her positive spirit, quick wit and zest for life but we hold onto the many wonderful memories we have of her. We will always treasure the times we enjoyed together as a family on vacations and the many gatherings held at good 'ole 6628. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday May 15, 2017 at Hansen Mortuary Chapel, 8314 N. 7th Street, Phoenix 85020. A reception will follow at Aunt Chilada's, 7330 N. Dreamy Draw Dr., Phoenix 85020. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to New Horizons Gynecological Cancer Research Fund at  www.gog.org.
