Arizona. They were both students at Arizona State University at that time, and Meg was working at Verde Recreation Center. They had three children: Susan, David and Jamie. The family resided in Phoenix, AZ, then in Norco, CA, and again in Phoenix. Meg and Dick shared a love of camping and of horseback riding, and then enjoyed those things in turn with their children. Meg was raised in the Lutheran church and later joined the Methodist church. She was very fond of the book A Man Called Peter the story of Peter Marshall. Meg was a devoted daughter, sister and then wife and mother. Meg loved being a mom and she was very involved in her young children's activities such as sports and the 4-H club. Meg warmly embraced, with pride, each of her child's individual interests as they evolved over time, for instance: attending Greenway High school football games, learning about and attending aircraft competitions, and donning binoculars for bird watching expeditions. In addition to camping and horseback riding, Meg had diverse interests including, to name a few: Norwegian tales and family history, college hockey, leather crafts, auto racing, photography, football, and the Olympics. She also enjoyed collecting things such as sports memorabilia, painted ponies, and cowboy santas. Meg loved a great human interest story, and sports for her were as much about the athlete as a person with a story, as about the game or competition itself. Later, she was a teacher's aide for handicapped children and raised and showed Pygmy goats. She was thrilled to welcome to their family two grandsons: Austin (14) and Alex (12), and one step-granddaughter, Taylor (17) and loved spending time with them as they grew. One of her favorite things involving kids was children's literature and she was always interested and supportive of the education and success of her children and grandchildren. Meg is survived by her husband Richard Hiner, her daughter Susan (Jerry) D'Agostino (Columbus OH), her sons David Hiner (Chandler, AZ) and James (Abby) Hiner (Gilbert, AZ), her grandsons Austin Hiner (Gilbert, AZ) Alexander D'Agostino (Columbus, OH), and her step-granddaughter, Taylor Tanner (Gilbert, AZ). Meg is survived by her brother Robert (Anelena) Homme (Fairfax VA) and their three daughters and six grandchildren (all of the Washington DC area). She is also survived by her cousin Richard Breuing (Minneapolis, MN) and his sons and grandchildren. Meg enjoyed a warm relationship and friendship with her husband's family. Meg is preceded in death by her parents Olaf and Evelyn Homme, and her sister Gloria Homme. A memorial service will be held at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary Chapel (6500 East Bell Rd. Scottsdale, AZ 85254) on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10 a.m. Interment and a reception will follow the memorial service at the same location.
