Melvin Dean Williams

Melvin Dean Williams, 75, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Creston, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska passed from this life on October 17, 2017 at Thunderbird Banner Hospital, Glendale, Arizona. Mel was born November 27, 1941 in his grandmother's farm house in Adams County, Iowa to Murry M. and Irene May Williams. Mel grew up in the town of Creston, Iowa surrounded by and enjoying a large and extended family. He attended primary, junior high in Creston, graduating Creston High School in 1959. He later attended Phoenix College. In 1959, he married Thelda Marie Bender. Mel, then an executive with the JC Penny Company, was transferred to Phoenix, Arizona from Omaha, Nebraska in January 1971. He joined the Phoenix Police Department October 1973, and retired in 1998 after 25 years of dedicated, compassionate service. Mel was a devoted family man, avid outdoorsman, horseman and trap shooter. He treasured his annual Minnesota fishing trips, the tradition his father started in 1946.
