Frances(Franca) La Magna, 73, passed away Friday morning December 8, 2017 in her home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born in Valguarnera, Sicily on December 12, 1943, she was the daughter of Giovanni Prato and Maria Rocazzella Prato. She immigrated to the United States at 15 years old and soon thereafter began her lifelong professional career as tailor. In 1963, she married Joseph La Magna, the love of her life, and together they shared 39 years of marriage until his death in 2002. Franca was an incredible wife, mother, nonna, and friend. Franca was an active participant in the Roman Catholic community, both as a longtime member of St Bernadette's parish and in her work with the Arizona Chapter of the Maria SS. Lauretana Society. Through her participation and leadership contributions to the Sons of Italy-Camelback Lodge and few local Italian social clubs, Franca stood as a voice of pride and advocacy for the Arizona based Italian population, and in particular for the promotion of the advancements of her Sicilian culture.
