A memorable life filled with zest & spirit, Douglas J. Thomey, age 73, passed away at Flagstaff Medical Center on May 9, 2018 with his wife by his side & dear friend nearby. His loving parents, Agnes & John Thomey welcomed him to the world on December 29, 1944. He was born in Vancouver, Canada moving to Phoenix with his parents & sister Carole at a very early age. He attended grade school in Phoenix, graduated from Brophy College Preparatory H.S. then on to A.S.U. graduating with an accounting degree. He is survived by his wife Carol who lost the love of her life, one daughter Lisa Gilleland, two step-sons, Todd Aanenson & Mike Aanenson & 3 step-grandsons, Gary, Mike II & Taylor. He is preceded in death by his daughter Gina Thomey, sister Carole Besore, both parents & step-father. His journey through life was jam-packed with agendas, work & play. From motorcycle racing to skiing to hiking & tennis, he was a competitor in everything he did with accomplishments too numerous to list. A "never-give-up" kind of guy. He wasn't quite finished when retirement began so he chose to continue in the financial arena at the Red Cross. Taking pride in all his work efforts his most memorable annual review included his tennis idol Roger Federer. One of the CEO's referred to him as, "the Roger Federer of CFO's". Memories are the most beautiful pictures our minds can paint. He & his wife Carol shared so many happy memories filling his calendar of life with love. "Love happens in the little moments".
