Roy Edward Stilwell, Jr., (95) passed away on July 13 in Scottsdale, AZ. He was the devoted husband of Gloria P. Stilwell (deceased). They shared 60 glorious years of marriage together. Roy was born in Baltimore, Maryland and moved to Chicago, Illinois before the age of 1. He was the eldest son of Roy E Stilwell Sr and Marie (Hennessey) Stilwell and brother to John "Jack" Stilwell. In 1938, Roy won the Sons of the American Legion Illinois state drum corps competition sponsored by the Chicago Police post 207. Roy was an active war vet having served in WWII. Roy entered the military in 1942 and was in the 13th United States Army Air Force. His time was spent mostly in the Pacific specifically Palau, New Guinea and the Philippines. After the military in 1944, Roy went to work for Commonwealth Edison where he climbed poles and later promoted up to load dispatcher over the Chicago downtown area. Roy was an avid Golfer and played in many golf tournaments including a golf tournament for the blind sponsored by Arizona Lions Clubs. coveted Melvin Jones award. Roy was an usher at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic church for many years. He also volunteered at the John C. Lincoln adult day care center. Most recently, Roy had the distinct privilege of being selected by the Knights of Columbus to go to Washington DC with Honor Flight AZ. Roy will be remembered for his zest for life and sense of humor. He wanted people to enjoy themselves and did everything he could to make that happen. He was kind and generous. Roy loved family and country above all else. He loved to serve. Roy is survived by his children Larry (Chestra) and Lynette (Pete); grandchildren Brian (April), Holly (Paul) and Alex; great grandchildren Brice, Bridget, Parker, Sydnee and Brandon. Uncle to Sean, Maureen (Mark), Kathleen, George (Jane) and Kevin (Cynthia). Viewing will be held July 19 at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Rd, Scottsdale AZ from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 am on July 20 at Blessed Sacrament church, 11300 N. 64th St., Scottsdale followed by funeral to National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 Cave Creek Road at 1:00 pm.
