Miriam Cecilia Gillis

Miriam Cecilia Gillis (nee Schmidt) 94, passed into eternal life on Friday, September 7, 2018. She was born in the Bronx, New York on March 18, 1924 to Elizabeth and George Schmidt, who preceded her in death. Her sister, Dorothy Yeager, also preceded her in death. Miriam married Hugh Allen Gillis, a WWII veteran who passed away in 1975. She was a proud member of the Greatest Generation. Miriam worked as a mental health attendant for many years at Creedmoor State Hospital in Queens, New York. Over the course of her lifetime, she lived in New York City, Queens, and Croton-on-Hudson, all in New York. Most recently she resided in Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona. Miriam had a strong faith in God and enjoyed practicing her Catholic faith. Her immediate and extended family grew over the years to include her children, Steven (Pat), Cecilia (both Steven and Cecilia preceded Miriam in death), Patricia Kaslyn (John), Alexander (Eileen) and Allen Duncan (Donna). She loved and took great pride in her grandchildren, Christine, Erin, Megan, Kristen, James and Gabrielle; and her great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Declan and Charlotte. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8620 N. 7th Street, Phoenix 85020, followed by burial at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, 23015 N.
