BETTY J. BARBER

Betty J. Barber, 102, of Marquette, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 30, 2016 surrounded by her family at UP Health System- Marquette. Betty was born on September 2, 1913 in Marquette and was a lifelong Upper Peninsula resident. Betty was formerly employed as a secretary to the Dean of the School of Arts and Science at Northern Michigan University, retiring from there in 1978. She was an avid NMU Hockey fan. Survivors include two daughters, Helen (Anthony) Mastaw of Appleton, WI and Judy Mastaw of Livonia; three sons, Robert Bruce of Dallas, TX, Philip (Pamela) Barber of Royal Oak and Bill Barber of Marquette; also 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death besides her parents was her husband, LaJoy Barber on June 29, 1958; also five brothers and one sister. Friends may call at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. where a parish prayer service will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will also be at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 2372 Badger St., Marquette, on Friday, February 5th from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Betty's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of the Norlite Nursing Center for the wonderful care they gave her over the last several years. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Christopher Catholic Church or the Norlite Nursing Center Activities Fund in Betty's memory.
