James M. Jim McGee, 94, of Marquette, died Friday morning, November 24, 2017 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. Jim was born on October 31, 1923 in Marquette to the late William and Elsie (Fassbender) McGee and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a 1941 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater. Jim was employed for 30 years with the DSS&A and Soo Line Railroads as a machinist. He later worked 10 years with U.S. Fish and Wildlife. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Big Bay. In his free time, Jim enjoyed golfing and spending time at his home in Big Bay. He was a life member of the Negaunee VFW and Marquette Elks Lodge #405. He was a member of Msgr. Nolan B. McKevitt Council #689, Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #44. Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Laurie McGee of Big Bay and Patricia McGee of Nunica, MI; five grandchildren, Caitlin McGee, Dylan McGee, Michael McGee, Shawn McGee and Christopher McGee; one brother, Charles McGee of Green Bay, WI; two sisters, Alice Tyler of Albuquerque, NM and Patricia Ley of DePere, WI; also ...[more]

ister-in-law, Alice McGee of Santa Rosa, CA. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn McGee on April 27, 2001; two sons, Timothy McGee on December 16, 2010 and William "Bill" McGee on February 2, 2011; a sister, Mary Ann (Paul) Horal; brother, William McGee and an infant son, James O. McGee. The McGee family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, December 1st from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home where a memorial service with military honors will be held in the funeral home at 4 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating. A luncheon will be served immediately after the service in the funeral home reception area. Inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are kindly asked to consider the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 2119 Presque Isle Ave., Marquette, MI 49855 in Jims memory.
