of six children, lost his father early in life, and moved to Southern California in his early teens. He met Sharon at 12, and they were married while still in high School. Julius attended El Camino College, then UCLA and matriculated early to USC for Medical School-his heart remained a Trojan from then on. He trained in Fresno for 4 years, and returned to the Los Angeles area to raise his 4 children in Whittier. Dr Gray served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, but true to form, continued to work in Whittier as well, where he could be seen on weekends wearing his Dress Whites. He was honorably discharged as a Commander. In Whittier, Julius received many awards for excellence and service. The Boy Scouts awarded him the Golden Bear after years as the Troop 936 Scoutmaster. PIH Health Hospital-Whittier awarded him Honorary Medical Staff and the Physician Lifetime Achievement Award after 40 years of physician leadership including Chief of the Medical Staff and of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Julius Gray was the finest example known of a life well-lived. He was a pillar in his community, an icon in his profession, and universally admired as a moral, respectable family man and friend.
