n 2012. During those years of teaching, Barbara also remained a student. She earned her Masters in Education from Walden University. A third generation Whittierite, Barbara lived her entire life in Whittier with the exception of two years when she accompanied her husband, Arnold, at various posts during the Vietnam War. During that time they lived in Texas, Thailand, and Okinawa, Japan. As previously noted, Barbara always put her family first. She loved them very much and enjoyed spending time with them more than anything else. Barbara always considered her greatest accomplishment to be the raising of her children. Gardening and reading were among Barbaras favorite pastimes. She also developed a love for golf. She gave it a try and became hooked! She was a long-time parishioner at St. Gregory the Great Church, and she volunteered at the Interfaith Food Center in Santa Fe Springs after her retirement. Family and friends will remember Barbara for her love and her light. Her presence would always brighten any situation. Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Arnold; sons, Daniel (Trudy) and Gabriel (Megan) Carrillo; sister, Teri Barela; grandsons, Elijah, Sol, and Henry; and granddaughter, Hadley, named after Hadley St. in Whittier where her father, Gabriel, was born. A Vigil service will be led 7pm on Monday, January 7, 2019, at St. Gregory the Great Church, 13935 Telegraph Road, Whittier. Mass will be celebrated at 10am the next morning, Tuesday, January 8, 2019, also at St. Gregory the Great. Interment will immediately follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California.
