Arthur "Buck" Giese

Arthur "Buck" Joy Giese was born on November 3, 1911 in Dovray Township, Minnesota to Arthur W. and Christina M. (Hafner) Giese. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers, Minnesota. He attended country school in rural Jeffers, Minnesota. Arthur owned and operated a gas station at Jeffers Corners in the late 1930's. On January 27, 1940, Arthur was united in marriage to Ella Ida Martha Krahn. This marriage was blessed with three sons, Kent, Dallas, and Arthur. Arthur then worked for Farmer's Co-op Oil for a few years and then went into farming. He farmed near Jeffers until retiring in 1977. After retiring, Buck and Ella moved to Grand Rapids, MN where they lived for 18 years. While there they enjoyed fishing, time spent outdoors and spending time with family. In June, 1996 they returned to Jeffers and purchased a home. In October 2008, Buck and Ella moved into Eventide Assisted Living Center in Mt. Lake, MN. In December 2008, Buck moved to the Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Society in Windom where he lived until passing away on Tuesday morning June 1, 2010 at the age of 98. Arthur enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, visiting neighbors and friends and most of all playing and teasing with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of seventy years, Ella Giese of Windom; two son's, Kent Giese and his wife, Mary, of Duluth and Dallas "Butch" Giese and his wife, Joan, of Jeffers; eight grandchildren, Pamela Busswitz and her husband, Brian, of Westbrook; Elizabeth Whiteford of Grand Rapids; Greg Giese and his wife, Kim, of St. James; Stephanie Giese of Branson West, MO; Kristine Mertesdorf and her husband, Chris, of Byron; Kerri Oltmans and her husband, Scott, of Heron Lake; Jody Wolner and her husband, Mike, of St. James; and Ann Rudolph of Cuyuna; twelve great-grandchildren, Heather Whiteford, Miranda Giese, Jackson Oltmans, Cameron Giese, Noah Mertesdorf, Evan Oltmans, Kaylyn Rudolph, Olivia Rudolph, Carter Wolner, Ava Mertesdorf, Madelyn Oltmans, and Peyton Wolner; one brother, Clayton Giese of Olympia, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Christina Giese; one son, Arthur L. "Chip" Giese; three brothers, George Giese, Harley Giese and William Giese; and one sister, Ann Giese.
