Willie C. McCloud, affectionately know as Fina by some, was born on May 18, 1940 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to Milton and Bessie McCloud. He was the middle of 3 children born to that union. Willie moved to San Diego as a baby and attended Lowell Elementary, Memorial Jr High and graduated from San Diego High School in 1959. Willie was an exemplary athlete who excelled in baseball, football, basketball, and track. He held several records at San Diego High and was voted to the San Diego City All-State Baseball First Team in 1958 1959 and to the AllState team in 1959. After high school, he continued to excel in football while attending San Diego City College. Willie was a very talented and charismatic athlete and he was a joy to watch. Willie continued to be active in sports until his health began to decline and was an avid racquetball player until his 60s. In the summer of 1961, the young and beautiful Willie Mae Hollins caught the eye of the star athlete/big man on campus. Willie was vibrant and smart and had a photographic memory for sports trivia. He enjoyed all sports, and could watch ESPN all day. His children and grandchildren followed his athleticism and were multi-sport athletes as well as scholars. Pa, as he was affectionately called by his grandkids, was very involved in his childrens and grandchildrens lives and loved spending time with them and attending as many of their sports events as possible. Willie was a charming man with a big personality. If he liked you, you definitely knew it and if he didnt like you, youd better get out of his way! He was funny and quick-witted and rarely lost when playing the dozens. Willie was loved by all. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He also served as a father-figure for his nieces and nephews and several of his childrens friends. Willie was generous and would do anything for those he loved. His love for his family was fierce and unconditional. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and was able to watch 3 of his grandchildren graduate from college in 2016. If you wanted trouble, all you had to do was say something negative about his family and you could stand by for trouble! Willie worked as a machinist, fabricating aircraft parts at Rohr Industries and B. F. Goodrich for over 30 years. He was affectionately called Dr. Will because his co-workers often went to him for advice and counseling. He was a loyal friend whose opinions were held in high regard. Because Willies mother passed at an early age and he did not have a close relationship with his father, he vowed to be the best father he could be. He definitely knocked it out of the park because he was the best father and grandfather imaginable. God called Willie home on January 2, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Bessie McCloud and his sisters Clara Jean Patterson and Claudine McCloud. He leaves to cherish his memory, his faithful and loving wife Mae, son Willie Jr. (Margaret) of San Jose, CA, daughter Joy Green (Bryan), adoring grandchildren Brandon, Taylor, Jordan and Tre (aka Willie III) and his honorary little sister (not sister-in-law), Doris Hollins, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brother and sister-in-laws, and friends.
