the Bremer-Butler Hospice, was on both the Butler County Farm Bureau and FS boards. Herb helped start the Allison Food Pantry. Herbert was on the Butler County Historical Society and Genealogy Society, was once president of Butler Center Cemetery Association, was a member of the Allison Lions Club, served on the Allison Park Board and was part of Trees Forever. Herbert is survived by his wife Mary Freese of North Liberty, son Kendall (Marsha) Freese of Diamond Springs, California, daughter Marlene (Rick) Miller of Ankeny, daughter Sydney (Randy) Brinkman of Allison, daughter Leanne Schipper (friend Ron Rivers) of Nashua, grandchildren Emily (Brock) Weers, Erin Miller, Jeri (Paul) Wendzel, Sara (Brad) Randall, Jade (Michael) Macke, Dane (Emily) Schipper, Drew Schipper, Jena Schipper, nine great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Dean (Barb) Westendorf, step-children Sheila (Mark) Loveland and Cyndy Marx, and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Martha Freese, and first wife Maxine. Memorial contributions may be given to Herbert's family for future disbursement to local charities and organizations. Due to COVID-19, friends and relatives should wear a mask and practice social distancing leaving six feet between each group for both the visitation and funeral service. For those attending Herbert's funeral service, please bring a chair. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2020, at Butler Center Cemetery, rural Allison. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 28, 2020, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Allison.
