Michael K. "Smitty" Smith, 55, formerly of Westover and currently of Rivesville, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 18, 2016 in the Hospice Care Unit of Ruby Memorial Hospital after a brave seven month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born March 22, 1961 in Morgantown, a son of the late Charles and Bernice Shillinburg Smith. Survivors include his daughter, Amanda Arnett, her husband Donnie, and their two daughters Layla and Leah of Fairmont; his brother, James "Jimmy" Smith and his wife Barbara of Morgantown; four nephews, James "Jimmy" Smith, II and his wife Hannah, Travis Smith, Joey Johnson and his wife Random, and Robbie Rice all of Morgantown; and a niece Kristin Kochel of Maryland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy Johnson, and a nephew, Baby Charlie. Smitty will be best remembered as a dedicated youth football and baseball coach for Westover Junior High School, Westwood Middle School, Morgantown High School, and the Wes Mon and Senior Babe Ruth Leagues. ature. Friends may join the family to honor Smitty's life and legacy at Kingdom Evangelical Methodist Church, 540 Fairmont Rd., Westover, on Monday, August 22nd from 5 PM until 8 PM. A celebration of his life will be held in the church at 8 PM Monday evening. Following the service, Smitty's wishes for cremation will be honored by his family.
