Millie Strom

Mildred "Millie" Ruth Strom, daughter of Albert and Alma (Saathoff) Yonker was born on November 10, 1924, in Jackson, Minnesota. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Jackson County, Minnesota. She attended country school in District 9 and later graduated from Jackson High School in 1942 and then from Mankato State College. She was a teacher in Worthington and Windom. On August 28, 1949, Millie married Ronald Strom at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Jackson County. They owned and operated a grocery store named "Ronnie's Market" in Windom for twenty-five years. Millie also worked for H & R Block for seventeen years. In retirement, Millie enjoyed helping her son, David and wife Marilee at First Floral Hallmark. She loved people and enjoyed being in the public. Her home was a gathering place for neighbors and friends. Millie was a faithful, dedicated member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom being active in Ladies Aid, circle, and Golden Age. onoree Program as a senior citizen who has made an outstanding contribution to the community. Besides being an active community member, Millie also was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her faith and family were her greatest priorities. Recently, Millie's health had been declining. She passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, July 9, 2008 at the age of 83. Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie on August 7, 1994; her parents and brother, Richard. Millie is survived by two sons, David Strom and his wife Marilee, of Windom; Steven Strom and his wife, Debbie, of St. Paul; two grandchildren, Marc and Pamela; and a host of relatives and friends.
