t with tours in Korea, Kosovo & Kuwait. During his service he was thrilled to visit Australia. Along with his travels, John achieved the rank of Sergeant in the 3/7th Infantry "Cottonbalers" along with a following of men who became lifelong friends. Sgt. McBride was known to his men as a dedicated leader, an outstanding soldier and a master storyteller. Later, he dubbed himself Supreme Commander Jungle John to the endless entertainment of his nieces. Born from his days trudging through creek beds, ravines & backwoods, John was always looking for adventure. After 7 years in the Army, he moved to Florida. He found the Everglades and paramedicine. He worked as a paramedic in Broward & Lee Counties for several years and found great joy in cycling all over Florida - following the trails and blazing new ones. John's daughter Kaylee was born in 2013 and she was the light of his life. John was a proud and devoted father, instilling in Kaylee a sense of adventure both in food and in fun. He also shared his love of animals with her, especially their dogs Lucky & Luna. John was a foodie from a young age - he could not be left alone with a can of black olives or Granny's Italian Crème cake. He grew his epicurean horizons on his worldly adventures bringing home wild flavors and textures which he loved to treat his family and friends to. The secret to his spectacular cheese grits is forever safe. His final adventure took him to the end of the Earth - literally to Tierra del Fuego, Ushuaia, Patagonia Argentina and Los Glaciares National Park. His 2019 trip was one of a lifetime, his joy and excitement for the expedition were palpable and of course the stories were legendary. Funeral arrangements are pending.
