Earnest Ruth Morton stepped into eternity on July 2, 2020 at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ypsilanti, Michigan. Earnest Ruth was born on April 9, 1943 to her loving parents the late Willie and Lizzie B. (Tooson) Birl in Cypress, Alabama. In 1951, she moved with her family to Ypsilanti, Michigan, and she attended Ypsilanti Public Schools. She attended Metropolitan Memorial Baptist Church where she met and married the love of her life, Clarence B. Morton Sr., and remained members until the day of their transitions. To their union was born Clarence Jr. (Brad), Julie, and Jessica. Earnie, as she was so affectionately called, loved playing the piano, singing, leading the Pastor's Chorus and Senior Choir, and serving in the S.L. Chorale. Alongside her husband, she loved being in leadership over the youth for over 25 years. Moreover, her passion was being the owner of "Morton's Day Care," where almost all the neighborhood and Metropolitan children experienced her unforgettable loving care. She loved traveling and cooking everything from scratch, and most people have been using her recipes to make her famous rolls, peach cobbler, pound cake and German Chocolate Cake. ions where she exemplified love by helping those in need: from shopping in her cabinets, to providing "wash and curls" to many, especially senior citizens. Earnie will certainly be missed. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Clarence (Yolanda) Morton Jr. of San Diego, CA, Julie (Richard) Page of Ann Arbor, MI, and Jessica Akins of Ypsilanti, MI; five grandchildren, Erron, Erric, Ervaun, Lisa, and Dallas Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Marcus, Elijah, and DeSean; one sister, Lillian Harris; two special daughters, Deborah Morton and Mirane Franklin; a special grandson, Dezmond Franklin; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence B. Morton Sr.; two brothers, Willie Birl and Jerry L. Birl; and a sister, Mattie B. Reid. A visitation will be public for family and friends to rotate through on Sunday, July 26, 2020 from 5-8pm at the Metropolitan Memorial Baptist Church; 431 Hawkins Street, Ypsilanti, Michigan 48197. The funeral service will be private for the family only Monday, July 27, 2020 at 11am at the church, however the service will be available for viewing online.
