Eunice Shappell Knight

Eunice Shappell Knight, 72, of Burlington, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at the Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, IL. Open visitation will be held Friday, May 5, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, where friends may sign the register and leave cards and memorials. There will not be a family visitation time. Private family graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 6th at the Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Eunice's memory. Born and proud of her heritage, in Withee, WI, on May 4, 1933, Eunice was the daughter of Jesus M. and Myree Bessie Soto. On October 14, 1951, she married Charles L. Shappell. Long time residents of Mt. Pleasant, the Shappells owned and operated Shappell's Locker Service from 1961 to 1971. Here is where they made their life long friends. Eunice later began working for Motorola where she retired from in 1997. After the death of her husband Charles in 1991, she remarried and moved to Burlington in 1993. oved her grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter Susan her husband Tom Aguilar of Lakeport, CA; one son Richard Shappell of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a daughter-in-law Paulette Shappell of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and five beloved grandchildren, Shawna Shappell, Matt L. Shappell, Dana Shappell, Dawn Wellington and Leslie Shappell, all of Mt. Pleasant, IA. She is also survived by four brothers and five sisters. Eunice was preceded in death by her husband Charles Shappell, her second husband, Kenton K. Knight, and by a son Marion L. (Mooner) Shappell.
