Mary Joan (Mary Jo )Carey, age 85, died Thursday, October 9, 2014, at York House Assisted Living in Marion, IN. She was the daughter of the late William Embree and the late Debbie Wright Embree. She was born in Center Township on her parents farm east of Marion on October 16, 1928. She graduated from Van Buren High School in 1946 and then from Indiana Business College. She married Robert H. Carey on January 24, 1954. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before Bobs death in 2011. Besides being a farmers wife Mary Jo worked for Munsons Olds Pontiac and Schrock, Bonta and Ewer in Marion. The majority of her working career was spent in Gas City working for Twin City Chevrolet and Mike Anderson Chevrolet. Being great numbers, she became the first female to own a dealership in Grant County while she was co-owner of Twin City Chevrolet. Always a Madison-Grant enthusiast she enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports, enjoyed playing solitaire and was a member of the Fairmount Friends Church. She was preceded in death by sisters Dorthy Smith, Jean Bragg, Sally Johnson and Billie Marie Grindle. Brothers, Charles Embree, Ralph Embree, Kenneth Delbert Embree, Lloyd Embree, Orry Silas Embree and Bobby Embee. May thanks to the entire staff at York Place for their care of Mary Jo during her stay there. Arrangements are being handled by Fairmount Chapel - Armes-Hunt Funeral Home Cremation Services , 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, IN. Funeral service will be at Fairmount Chapel Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services at 10 AM, Monday, October 13, 2014 with Pastor Brock Meyer officiating. Interment will be at Grant Memorial Park, Marion. Visitation is Sunday, October 12, 2-6 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice in care of the funeral home.
