Robert "Bob" M. Riggs

Robert Bob M. Riggs, went to his eternal resting place on Friday, September 18, 2015. He was born on July 30, 1920, in Fairmount, Indiana to Denver and Mary (Corn) Riggs. Bob loved sharing stories of his life, being raised in Fairmount and working for his dad, Denver, at the Riggs Auto Repair Shop. He married Joan Adonis Rose on November 17, 1940. He loved her very much and when she passed on November 10, 2009, his heart was broken. Together they had spent most of their married life in Fairmount, retiring to Fort Meyers, Fla. in 1984. For as much as Bob loved his wife and family, he loved his country too. In November of 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USSUMDY08, a mine sweeper, with the Pacific Fleet as a Gunners Mate Third Class. He returned home in February 1946. Once again he was called to active duty in 1951, serving until 1954, in the Korean Conflict. he returned home to be employed at General Motors in Marion, retiring in 1984. Bob blessed his family by returning to Marion in 2009, to live out his remaining years with his family. Bob accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and is now with Him. Bob is survived by a son, Michael (Beverly) Riggs, of Marion; daughter, Patricia (Glen) Banter, of Marion; six grandchildren, Ron (Teresa) Riggs, of Summitville, Tami Rice, of Marion, Troy Riggs, of Fairmount, Shelly Riggs, of Marion, Amanda (Jason) Brooksher, of Marion, and Jeff Banter (Sheryl, fianc), of Marion; eleven great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two sisters, Margaret Jo Pemberton and Barbara Hunt. Arrangements are being entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, Ind. 46953.Visitation will be at the College Park Chapel on Wednesday, September 23, from 4:00 6:00 p.m. Masonic services and a funeral service will be immediately following on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date at Marion National Cemetery Memorial contributions in Bobs memory may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church Childrens Ministry, in care of the funeral home.
