Laverna H., daughter of Edward and Eleanor (Terlisner) Sanders was born on December 5, 1923 in rural Auburn. She attended school in Arcadia.
Laverna was united in marriage with Lawrence E. Reiff on November 27, 1939 at St. Marys Church in Maryhill, Iowa. The couple made their home in Carroll where they owned and operated Reiff Standard Service in Carroll for 17 years.
Laverna was an active member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll, where she volunteered as the Sacristan and Greteman Center Coordinator. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary. In her spare time she enjoyed embroidering quilts, crocheting, knitting and was a Kuemper High School sports fan.
In 2008, Laverna became ill but was able to remain at her home in Carroll, where she died on June 10, 2009, at the age of 85 years, 6 months, and 5 days.
Laverna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence in 1981; son Donald Reiff, son-in-law Terry Hyland, and siblings Vernon Sanders, Anna Mae Danner, Bernice Thede, Dorothy Feeley and an infant brother.
She is survived by sons: Rev. Dale E. Reiff of Halbur; Larry Reiff and wife Mary of Omaha, NE and David Reiff and wife Lynn of Jefferson, SD; daughters: Eileen and husband Al Yung of Ft. Dodge; Jean and husband George Conley of Visalia, CA and Marilyn and husband Randy Nelson of Littleton, Co; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sister Rosemary and husband Keith Fee of Rochester, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
