Dean William, son of Raymond Henry and Ila Adele Dorothy (Jahn) Grimm, was born May 30, 1943, in Shelby County, Iowa. He attended country school at Ewoldt Twp. #7 and graduated from Manning High School in 1961. Dean then worked at Thrifty Foods.

From 1964 to 1966 Dean served with the United States Army, and while stationed in Korea, he met his future wife Okyon Peggy? To. On July 25, 1966, Dean was united in marriage with Peggy at the American Embassy in Seoul, Korea. After Dean received his honorable discharge, they moved to Iowa and farmed near Aspinwall. In 1976, they bought a farm and moved to Long Prairie, Minnesota. They moved back to the Manning area in 1988 for a short time before returning to Minnesota. Okyon died unexpectedly in her sleep on May 5, 1997. Dean then returned to Manning and worked at Manning Ready-Mix.

Dean was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was baptized on August 1, 1943, and confirmed on April 14, 1957. He was also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Hayes Township Schuetzen Verein. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

As his health began to fail the past few months, Dean became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla in February. He died there on March 1, 2009 at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 1 day.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

He is survived by his brothers: Curtis Grimm and wife Nancy  of Aspinwall; Bruce Grimm and wife Mary of Johnston; and Alan Grimm of Manning; a sister Connie and husband Dan Brasel of Dunlap; sisters-in-law: Okim Sucky Johnston and husband Ray of Fort Smith, AR; Cindy Connell of California; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
