Paradise Valley, AZ - William Paul McCarthy, "Bill" of Paradise Valley, Arizona died October 27, 2020, at the age of 84. He was born on April 16, 1936, in Staten Island, NY to Fred and Mary McCarthy (nee Hickey), the third of five children. A proud Marine, Bill served in the United States Marine Corps and as a reservist. Post obtaining his engineering degree, he worked as an engineer and telecommunications executive, traveling domestically and internationally. In his twenties, inspired by his heroic uncle, Joseph McBreen, Bill bravely rescued a family from a burning car. Later, he served in the Kinnelon Volunteer Fire Department. Bill is best remembered for his love of running, having completed 10 New York City Marathons, and one Boston Marathon. He is credited for inspiring his daughter Kristen, niece Jennifer, and nephew Jonathan to follow in his running footsteps. Bill shared the past 40 years with the love of his life, Elizabeth (Beth) McMullen. , his daughter Erin McCarthy, his sister Maureen Dugan, brother-in-law Richard Dugan, brother-in-law Harry McMullen and sister-in-law Kathryn (Kass) McMullen, nieces Jennifer Dugan Andrade, Marcia McCarthy, Catherine Brennan, Rosemary Harbeson, Julia Ann Brown and nephews Jonathan Dugan, Brian McCarthy, Ted McCarthy, Terry McCarthy, Edward McCarthy, Donald McCarthy, Thomas McCarthy, and James McCarthy. He was honored to be a loved member of the Pullano, Veneziano, and Galatola families. He will be missed by his beloved dogs Cleo and Cosmo, but happy to rejoin Gretchen and Wolfgang and his best friend, Tom Clagett.
