r culinary arts - and this passion was to dominate her educational choices and life as an entrepreneur. She graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Home Economics in Georgetown in 1961. When she came to the United States she earned: A High School Diploma, a Nurses' Aide Certificate and in 1984 a Certificate in Dietetics from the New York Food & Hotel Management School. She also attended the College of New Rochelle from 1980-1981. Wendy Warren's employment history reflects wide ranging skills. In Guyana she was the Head Chef for Prime Minister Linden Forbes Burnham's for 11 years. In New York she was employed as a Governess, Head Cook, Dietary and Nurses Aide and also catered Guyanese/Caribbean cuisine. Her dream of owning her own restaurant came true in 1989 when in partnership with her young nephew Lornedale Nelson they opened "The Caribbean Queen" in San Diego, CA and served delicious Caribbean inspired meals and extraordinary deserts including her infamous "fruit cakes". From 1991 to 2005 she worked as a private cook and caterer for "BAW" Catering. Wendy enjoyed her life, but nothing could surpass her joy when one day before her own birthday on March 9th, her daughter Beverly Ann Warren came into the world on March 8th 1978. Beverly has been her "rock" in every sense of the word, her pride and joy. Beverly's "upbeat, optimistic sunshiny" personality so much like her mother's has enhanced every aspect of Wendy's life to the very end as Beverly sang hymns and songs to her mother in her final moments on earth. Wendy was a devout Christian. Growing up she attended Smith Congregational Church and later attended Pilgrim Holiness Church in Guyana. When she relocated to the United States in 1973 she continued her service to the Lord and worshipped at various churches. In 1994 she became a founding member of Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in San Diego where she served diligently as a deaconess, church secretary and Vice President of the Women's Ministry until 2010. It was during this time that she met her long time spiritual guide and "son" Pastor Anthony J. Howard; she later followed Pastor Howard and became a member of New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. In 2016 she joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor J.R. Bennett where she served as a proud member of the Mother Board and delightfully worshiped through song and praise. On November 20, 2020, Wendy Leila Warren departed this life. She leaves to cherish her memory her only child, Dr. Beverly Warren. Her sisters, Glysis Hing and Joan Gibson. Preceding her in death are her sisters Norma Sampson-Smith, Judy Bons, Claudette David and brother Mark McCrae. She is survived by her step-son Vibert Hinckson, granddaughter Natasha Hinckson-Cox and great granddaughters Keiarra and Kalia. She leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and a loving church family. She will be missed and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her forever.
