MUSCATINE #45;- Fred Lorber, 93, formerly of 1223 Grand Ave., died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Unity Hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 417 Green St. The Rev. John P. Gallagher will officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Paul Lorber, Mark Lorber, Brian Lorber, Marcia Dickman, Gregory Lorber, Gretchen Swanke, Sharon Kleinow, Steve Marten, Julie Bratek, John Marten, Mary Beth Marten, Jeff Lorber, Jayne Meloy, Jill Wright, Jenna Thirtyacre and Julie Thirtyacre. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, with a Rosary Prayer Service at the funeral home at 5 p.m. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary Catholic Church. Mr. Lorber was born on Nov. 10, 1905, on the Muscatine Island, the son of Frank and Tillie Neff Lorber. He married Dorothy King on Jan.3, 1929 at St. Mary Church in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1990. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a member of the Operating Engineers of AFL amp; CIO. He was a crane operating engineer retiring in 1970. his wife, Irma, of New London, and John Lorber and his wife, Joan, of Muscatine; two daughters, Betty Marten and her husband, Tom, of Syracuse, N.Y., and Susan Thirtyacre and her husband, Jack, of Illinois City, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy, four sisters, and one brother.
