Isabel Lobb Jones

Isabel Lobb Jones, 101, passed away quietly at Stonerise of Morgantown, formerly Mapleshire Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, on Wednesday, December 30, 2020. She dedicated her inspiring life to her family, country, community, and the friends she met along the way with love and devotion. She was born on August 5, 1919 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of the late Albert James and Mary Cunningham Lobb. She was raised in Rochester, MN where her father served as Comptroller for the Mayo Clinic. Her love for the Mayo Clinic continued throughout her life as both her husband and son completed their fellowships there. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Reverdy H. Jones, Jr.; her brother, John C. Lobb; and her two nieces, Josephine L. Adamson, and Carol L. Kimball. Survivors include her four beloved children and spouses, Reverdy H. Jones, III (Dottie) of Prosper, TX, Dr. Thomas C. Jones (Elizabeth) of Macon, GA, Caroline J. Webb (Robert) of Beaufort, SC and Anne J. Graziani of Morgantown, WV. Peter Webb (Brooke), Dr. Christopher Webb (Maureen), Matthew Webb (Erin), Dr. Stephen Graziani (Marie) and Dr. Caroline Labritz (Charles), and fifteen great-grandchildren. She attended Vassar College then transferred back to the University of Minnesota where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science and history. While teaching high school history, she was recruited by the Navy to volunteer as an officer in the Navy Waves during WWII. She was commissioned as a LTJG and served her duty in Washington, DC as a Communications Coder. She was married at the National Cathedral and continued her duty until she was honorably discharged. During her lifetime, she raised her family in Portsmouth, VA, Rochester, MN, Roanoke, VA and Philadelphia, PA before finally moving to her adopted state of West Virginia. She resided in Fairmont before moving to Charles Town. In 2017 she made her final move to Morgantown where she was an active and much-loved resident of Heritage Village. She felt strongly about community service and volunteered at both Fairmont General Hospital and Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Being an avid reader and gardener, she was a member of book and gardening clubs and volunteer at the Charles Town Library. As an active member in the Episcopal Church, she served on the Altar Guild at both Christ Episcopal Church in Fairmont and Zion Episcopal Church in Charles Town. She continued her worship Heritage Village regularly attending the Episcopal Service there and Bible Study. She had a great passion for animals and dearly loved all the family dogs. Her enthusiastic love for sports was prominent in her life as she cheered on the Mountaineers and Pittsburgh Steelers to victories. Her family will celebrate her memory and rejoice in the love she shared with all during her amazing life. May her light continue to shine down upon us. At her request, Isabel will be cremated and inurned in the Memory Garden of Christ Episcopal Church in Fairmont during a private ceremony for her family at a later date officiated by The Reverend Jordan Trumball.
