Lester Mehrens WALCOTT - Lester H. Mehrens, 79, of Walcott, died Wednesday Dec. 22, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center West in Davenport. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. The Rev. Kurt Larson will officiate. Organist will be Mabyn Fox and vocalist will be Henry Bentley. Burial will be at the Walcott Cemetery in Walcott. Pallbearers will be Scott Mehrens, Gregory Gottsche, Jeff Gottsche, Jason Mehrens, Ken Freund, Gary Bein, and Delmar Brus. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Bentley Funeral Homes in Durant. Memorials may go to the Walcott Fire Department and to the 4-H. Mr. Mehrens was born on May 31, 1920, in Scott County, the son of Gustav and Clara LeBuhn Mehrens. He married Elvera W. R. Best on Oct. 23, 1943, in Davenport. He farmed in Scott County his entire life retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Scott County Farm Bureau, a 4-H leader, former ASCS Committee member, former Blue Grass Township School board director, and was a member of the Walcott Community Club.
