Roy Conrad Braun TRIPOLI - Roy Conrad Braun, 97, of Tripoli, formerly of Nichols, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, in Tripoli. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Nichols United Methodist Church. The Rev. Marilyn Winch will officiate, assisted by Carol Kaalberg, Catholic coordinator. Pallbearers are his grandchildren, DeAnn Hakert, Monica Petersen, Richard R. Braun, Dennis Braun, Daryl Braun and Wade Petersen. Burial will be at Nichols Cemetery. A luncheon, following services, will be held at the church. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home in Muscatine. A memorial has been established for the Roy Braun Memorial Fund. Mr. Braun was born April 4, 1902, in Germanville, the son of Henry and Etta Schlarbaum Braun. He attended Buffalo Bluffs Country School and graduated from Nichols High School in 1920. He attended Brown Business College in Muscatine. While growing up, he was in 4-H and raised Hereford cattle, taking prizes at both the local and state fairs. He married Cecilia Julia Florang on Feb. 3, 1922, in Iowa City. , when he fell and broke his hip. He attended fairs and parades and enjoyed visiting with friends and family. He enjoyed spear carp fishing and tinkering with and repairing old machinery. He was of the Lutheran faith and a 50-year member of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 14. Survivors include one daughter, Carol J. Petersen of Plainfield; a daughter-in-law, Verda Braun of Plainfield; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several cousins in the Milford area; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Clifford in 1996; a daughter, Delores in infancy; two brothers, Archie and Harry Braun; and a sister, Elsie Knetsch.
