Ethel Phelps TIPTON - Ethel Imogene Phelps, 77, of Tipton, died Jan. 30, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Fry Funeral Home in Tipton. The Rev. DeLane Wright will officiate. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Tipton. Organist will be Nancy Hipple and vocalist will be Jim Schneider. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Phelps was born on June 23, 1922, in Olin, the daughter of Edward Byron and Olive Valere Onions Sisler. She married Leslie Domer Phelps on May 25, 1940, in Springdale. She was a cook and kitchen manager at Tipton High School for 29 years. She graduated from Stanwood High School. She was a member of the Tipton United Methodist Church and the W.O.T.H. Academy of Friendship. Survivors include daughters, Rebecca Laird and her husband, Willard, of Cedar Rapids and Kathy Phelps Kessenich and her husband, Jack, of Shellsburg; two sons, Lynn Phelps and his wife, Neva, of Tipton and Wayne Phelps and his wife, Naomi, of Santee, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
