Earl Brown NEW BOSTON, Ill. - Earl quot;Sonny quot; Brown Sr., 81, of New Boston, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Galesburg. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the New Boston United Methodist Church. The Rev. Rachel Stockle will officiate. Burial will be at the New Boston Cemetery where graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 48 and Mercer County VFW Post 1571. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made for the benefit of the American Legion Post 48 or for the family. Mr. Brown was born on June 27, 1918, in New Boston, the son of William S. and Phoebe quot;Lottie quot; McPheron Brown. He married Lula Edna Ward on May 1, 1942 in Seattle, Wash. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa and Italy. He was a member of the American Legion Post 48 and served as commander and liaison of Sons of the American Legion. He retired from John Deere in 1979 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 81. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in New Boston. r New Boston for many years and a volunteer for many services throughout the community. He loved people, life, his family, the Chicago Cubs, country music, and playing cribbage with his lifetime friend Oscar. Survivors include his wife, Lou; four daughters, Lottie Fuller and her husband, Bruce, of Eliza, Ill., Linda Perkins, Nancy Meincke and her husband, Larry, and Roxann Nelson, all of New Boston; two sons, Earl Brown Jr. and his wife, Jeri, of New Boston and Michael Brown of Dorchester, Mass.; two sisters, Stella Yates of Keithsburg, Ill., and Molly Juhl of New Boston; a foster son, Robert James of Keithsburg; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, two sisters, and a grandson.
