ropean Theater and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After retiring he enjoyed making quilts. He completed 309 and almost finished his 310th quilt. He adored and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He owned and operated Howe's Trucking and Shelling, a corn-shelling and trucking service. He worked as the Eliza Township Highway Commissioner for 10 years and worked at Kent Feeds for 4 years before retiring because of medical reasons. Survivors include his wife, Mamie Howe; a son, Robert Howe and his wife, Mary Lou, of Eliza, Ill.; a daughter Geri Coulter of Muscatine; six grandchildren, Lisa Ewing and her husband, Ted, Cindy Schaefer and her husband, Mark, Susan Stalkfleet and her husband, Mike, James Coulter and his wife, Jennifer, John Coulter and his wife, Anne, and Jayne Coulter; two step grandchildren, Mark Weeks and his wife, Kathy and Kim Dyehouse and her husband, Leo; six great-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd Howe of West Liberty; three sisters, Elisabeth Kendall of Blue Ridge, Ga., Betty Adkins and her husband, Bob, of Council Bluffs, and Inez Griffith of Council Bluffs. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael in 1973; seven brothers; and three sisters.
