Sidney Bowen DAVIS, Calif. #45;- Sidney Bowen, 89, of Davis, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at his home. Mr. Bowen was born July 31, 1910, in Muscatine. He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1927. He attended the University of Iowa. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in England, France and Belgium. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Masonic orders of the Scottish Rites and Shrine, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American League. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Army Reserves. He was fond of travel, gardening, reading mysteries and westerns and was a lover of Asian art. He authored a book titled 'Dearest Isabel'. His favorite charities were indigent veterans of World War II and the American Red Cross. He was an ardent admirer of President Ronald Reagan and author Louis L'Amour. Survivors include a daughter, Victoria Thomson and her husband Duncan and their daughter Amy of Davis; a sister, Dorothy Maplethorpe of Toledo and her husband, Charles; and family and good friends throughout the United States. Isabel Hafner, died on their 56th wedding anniversary on Sept. 9, 1996. He also was preceded in death by his father, Leonard; his mother, Prudence; and three brothers, Ralph, Robert and Harold.
