Dr. Jerome Hughes Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Union Church in Berea. BEREA, Ky. - Jerome W. Hughes, 96, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at the Berea Hospital. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Union Church in Berea. In lieu of flowers gifts may be made to the Jerome W. Hughes Memorial Fund at Berea College CPO No. 2216 Berea, 40404 or the charity of your choice. Mr. Hughes was born on Jan, 3, 1905, the son of Robert William Hughes and Ruth Sample Hild. He was a retired Berea College English professor, and a member of Union Church. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis C. Hughes of Berea; two daughters, Winifred Booth of Houston, Texas and Jeraldine Phillip Hammond of Chesterfield, Mo.; five grandchildren, Robert Reynolds and his wife, Annette, of Denver, Colo. and Kathryn Reynolds of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, Steven Reynolds of Houston, Natalie Hammond of St. Louis, Mo., and Stephanie Hammond of Naples, Fla.; one great-grandchild, Austin Reynolds of Denver, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Helen Hammann. [more]
