George Stack DAVENPORT, Iowa - George A. Stack, 80, of Davenport died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at the Alverno Care Center Facility in Clinton, where he resided. Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. His son, the Rev. John J. Stack will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Davenport, with Military Honors by the Davenport American Legion Post No. 25. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Christian Vigil service and a 8 p.m. rosary Thursday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Our Lady of Victory Foundation. Mr. Stack was born Oct. 6, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Thomas George and Mary Godslove Pomerski Stack. He married Joan Ellen Brooks June 2, 1951, at St. Sabina Catholic Church in Chicago. She preceded him in death March 21, 1974. He was educated in the Chicago Catholic School System. In 1938, he was runner up in the City of Chicago's 'Golden Gloves' boxing competition. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by the Rock Island Railroad in Chicago before being transferred to Davenport. Roy J. n for his new company, Bandag. He retired in 1981 as General Traffic at Bandag headquarters in Muscatine. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, particularly playing board games. He was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Loras Council 532 and bowled on the Knight's evening league for many years. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory's men's club, serving as a money counter and usher since joining the parish as a charter member in 1962. Survivors include his children, Thomas George Stack of Phoenix, Cheryl Marie Wagner and her husband, John, of Davenport; Daniel Anthony Stack of Bettendorf and the Rev. John Joseph Stack of Camanche; a brother, Jerome Raleigh Stack of Phoenix; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
