John Gluba WAPELLO, Iowa #45;- John Leslie Gluba, 93, Wapello, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at his home. Services are 7 p.m. today at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello. The Rev. Mary N. Pugh will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by organist Bev Parsons and vocalist Alana Poage. The family will meet friends after the ceremony. Burial will be at Keithsburg Cemetery on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Wapello Rescue Unit and the Wapello Community Ambulance Service. Mr. Gluba was born on June 8, 1908, in Keithsburg, Ill., the son of Joseph and Emma P. Grey Gluba. He married Martha E. Garland on June 20, 1931, in Iowa City. She preceded him in death on May 22, 1972. He later married LaVerne Hancock in January 1973. She preceded him in death on March 4, 1989. He was a farmer, coming from Illinois to the Wapello area, where he spent most of his farming career. After retiring and moving back to Keithsburg, he worked in the Ball Bluff area clearing trees. He later moved to Fort Madison and worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Middletown. He lived at Prairie Village Apartments, Wapello, since May 1989. ...[more]

was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Wapello and the Masonic Lodge, Oquawka, Ill. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a good card player. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Samuels and her husband, Les, of Wapello; five grandchildren, Jerry and Carla Heater of Wapello, Dan and Gail Heater of Hays, Kan., Scott and Janell Heater of Wapello, Jody Brooks of Fayetteville, Ga. and David and Jennifer Samuels of Chesterfield, Va.; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; two sisters, Elsie Meeker of Keithsburg and Lois Olson of Reno, Nev.; two brothers, Joseph 'Jake' Gluba and his wife, Caroline, of Keithsburg and Elvin Gluba of Tucson, Ariz.; and a reacquainted son, John Hunerdosse and his wife, Carol, of West Burlington, his two children and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; a sister, Helen Waight; and six brothers, Everett, William, Andy, Evan, James and an infant brother.
