Bernice Schaapveld ROLLING PRAIRIE, Ind. #45;- Bernice Ann Schaapveld, 79, of Rolling Prairie, formerly of West Liberty, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at the Hospice House, St. Joseph County, Ind. Services were 10:30 a.m. Sept. 3 at St. John Kany Catholic Church, Rolling Prairie. The Rev. Michael Heimer officiated. Burial was at St. John Kany Cemetery. The Essling Funeral Home, La Porte, Ind., was in charge of the arrangements. Miss Schaapveld was born on Nov. 14, 1922, the daughter of Henry and Cecilia Milder Schaapveld. She graduated from West Liberty High School in 1941. She was a dean of nursing at Purdue North Central University. When the college closed the program she worked as a registered nurse at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center, South Bend, Ind., until retiring. She lived at Hamilton Grove Assistance Living, New Carlisle, Ind. for 14 months until one week prior to her death when she was taken to the Hospice House. Survivors include a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, four nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mrs. Harold Kurriger; and a brother, Henry Schaapveld. [more]
