RUTH BARKO MUSCATINE, Iowa - Ruth M. Barko, 87, of Muscatine, died Thursday, December 12, 2002, at her home. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Kellogg of the Seventh Day Adventist Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be Rob Carlson, John Carlson, Terry Westberg, John Westberg, Kevin Barko, and John Teglas. Honorary Bearers will be Faron Pride and Ben Hermel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Senior Circle. Mrs. Barko was born on October 27, 1915, in Mahaska County, the daughter of Glenn and Hazel Mae Young Curry Sr. She married Edward A. Barko on May 19, 1934, in Muscatine, Iowa. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She and her husband raised and sold strawberries for 50 plus years. Survivors include two sons, James Barko and his wife, Gail, of Jenison, Michigan, and Donald Barko and his wife, Janet, of Muscatine; two daughters, Janet Westberg and her husband, Stan, of Brantwood, Wisconsin, and Joyce Carlson and her husband, Dr. Robert Carlson, of Wisconsin Dell...[more]

Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe D. Curry of Columbus Junction; and two sisters, Berniece Seright of Muscatine and Thelma Connor of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward, in 2000, five brothers, and one sister.
