Michael T. Smith, age 66, of 4611 State St. Apt. 40, Quincy, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at 6:15 am at his home. Michael was born January 26, 1955 in Jacksonville, IL the son of Ernest and Edith Breakville Smith. He married Patty McElroy on October 14, 1999 in Quincy. Michael graduated from Jacksonville High School and went on to achieve his Associates Degree in Business from Bible Baptist College in Springfield, MO. He worked for a time as a State of Illinois Corrections Officer in Joliet, IL. He also worked as a paramedic in Springfield, IL, and later for Adams County Ambulance Service. For the last 5 years, Michael has worked at Haymakers at 24th and Locust in Quincy, where he was named Associate of the Year. He was an official for IHSA football and basketball, and women's softball. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan but was a lover of all sports. He and Patty are members of Grace Baptist Church in Quincy where Michael was not only a pillar of the church but was also a charter member, served on the board of Trustees and as an usher for the church. r of the Quincy Tea Party. Michael was a family man and a people person. He never hesitated to show his appreciation to those around him and one always knew where he stood on the issue at hand. Survivors in addition to his wife, Patty, include: three children, Christopher (Alexandra) Smith of Springfield, IL, Braydan Carder, and Lucas Smith, both of Quincy; Grandchildren Allister Forrest, Adela Smith, and one on the way; a sister Karen (Olan) Turner; nieces and nephew, Tamera Turner, Traci (Dwayne) Keiffer, and J.R. Turner; in laws, Marie (Gary) Ellis, Kelly (Priscilla) McElroy, Polly (John) Sprick, and Stacey (John) Edwards; and his two special dogs, Cubby and Chewy. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Debra Glaenzer; and a brother in infancy Danny Smith. Services: 11:00 am Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Pastor Jason Moncofsky officiating. There will be no burial.
