Phyllis J. Spilger

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Phyllis J. Spilger, 76, Iowa City, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a lengthy illness. Memorial services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. The Rev. Dwight DuBois will officiate. Burial was at Oakridge Cemetery, West Liberty. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service. Mrs. Spilger was born March 23, 1926, in Walcott, the daughter of Roland and Thelma Arp Rochau. She married Harold Spilger on Jan. 8, 1946, in Atalissa. She graduated from Atalissa High School and moved to Iowa City in 1943. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school. She and her husband have been foster parents over the years. She was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed mushroom hunting.
