Thelma Borgstedt DES MOINES, Iowa #45;- Thelma Schulze Borgstedt, 97, Des Moines, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Greenwood Cemetery, Muscatine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the donor's choice. Dunn's Funeral Home, Des Moines, is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Borgstedt was born Dec. 2, 1906, in Burke, S.D., the daughter of John G. and Laura Haggerty Schulze, pioneer homesteaders near Burke. She married Floyd Borgstedt in 1928. He preceded her in death in 1962. She lived in Burke until her graduation from Burke High School. She continued her education at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Nursing School, Council Buffs, graduating as a registered nurse in 1927. She resided in Des Moines until her death. At the time of her death she was a resident of Ramsey Home, Des Moines. She was an active member of Quota Club, Questors, Easter Seals auxiliary and other professional organizations. roscope Sales and Service business. Upon her husband's death, she successfully operated the business until she retired in 1994 at age 88. The South Dakota prairie and the devotion of her family guided her life and gave her a positive view of life. Those who knew her admired her and her accomplishment in business and life's journey. She worked most of her life but spent time enjoying traveling, family and friendships. She enjoyed travel, the arts and collecting. Her humor, graciousness, deep interest and love for all her extended family of nieces, nephews and their children will be sadly missed. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Juanita Schulze of Zanesville, Ohio; nephews, Gary Schulze of California, Roderick Schulze of Texas, Stephen Schulze of Ohio; and nieces, Jean Straker of Zanesville, Carol Hallet of Virginia, Nancy McDermott of Colorado; and several great-nieces and -nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers, Harley, Lyle and John Wesley.
