FRANCIS LONGHURST MUSCATINE, Iowa -Francis L. Longhurst, 89, of Muscatine, died Thursday, January 15, 2004, at the Lutheran Homes. Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the New Hope United Methodist Church, 3215 Tipton Road. The Reverend Tom Parrott will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. A Military Service will be provided by the combined squads of the American Legion and the VFW. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Homes Activity Department. Online condolences may be left for the Longhurst family at www.wittichfuneralhome.com. Francis was born on March 16, 1914, in Muscatine, the son of George and Anna Schmer Longhurst. He married Vera E. Soukup, June 29, 1946, in Wilton. He was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church and the former First Evangelical United Brethern Church. He was a self-employed building contractor. He is survived by two sons, Ronald D. andchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Warren Longhurst and his wife, Mary Lee, of Muscatine; and two sisters-in-law Maxine Longhurst and JoAnn Longhurst, both of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1993, six brothers, Robert, Leonard, Russell, Thomas, Euston, and one brother in infancy.
